この日本語、英語でなんて言う？
1976年の夏にアメリカに住み着いて以来、
これでもう約半世紀が経つ私なのですが、
いまだにすぐ英訳が浮かばない
日本語表現が幾つかあるので、
それらの一例をリストアップさせていただきます。

空気が読めない He doesn’t know how to read the room.
He doesn’t take a hint.
He doesn’t know when to shut up.
空気を読めよ！ Read the room!
ドン引き Cringe
見る度にドン引きする I cringe every time I see it.
ドン引きするわ It makes me cringe
よく言われるわ I get that a lot.
私達は幼馴染みです We grew up together.
仕方がない It cannot be helped.
彼は俺のマブダチです He is my brother from another mother.
腕をあげる Up my game
是非お願いします That would be much appreciated.
危機一髪だったね That was close!
取引が流れた That deal fell through.
皆にお手本を見せて Show us how it’s done
実力を見せてくれ Show me what you’ve got.
彼は私の望みを聞いてくれる He listens to what I want.
抜糸した I got my stitches out.
わけが分からないよ Make it make sense.
共通点が一杯あるね We have so much in common.
夜更かししちゃった I stayed up last night.
今日は何か特別な日？ What’s the occasion?
不意をつかれた He caught me off guard.
ソースは二度付けするな No double-dipping!
出前をとろう Let’s order in.
好きな事を仕事にしよう Do what you love.
使うか失うかだ Use it or lose it.
話し合って判りあえた We talked it out.
保険をかけている Hedging my bets.
会議を前倒しした Moved the meeting up.
君なら着こなせるよ You could pull it off.
これは邪魔！ This is in the way!
