日本語には色を使った表現があります。
それと同様に英語にも様々な慣用表現が存在します。
その中から、
今まであまり聞く事がなかったものを
幾つかご紹介します。
普段の会話でさらっと使えるように
なりたいものですね。

See red かんかんに怒っている
My mother sees red whenever I come home late.
（母は私が遅く帰宅するといつも激怒する。）
Paint the town red 派手に楽しむ、羽目を外して大騒ぎする
They decided to paint the town red on their last night of vacation.
（彼らは休暇の最後の夜に派手に遊ぶことにした）
Talk a blue streak 休みなくしゃべり続ける
She talked a blue streak about her trip to Europe.
（彼女はヨーロッパ旅行について休みなくしゃべり続けた）
Green with envy 嫉妬している、またはうらやましがる
I was green with envy when I heard
my friend saw Matt Damon yesterday.
（友人が昨日マットデーモンを見たと聞いて、私は羨ましくなった）
Yellow bellied 臆病な、または怖がりの（人）
My son cower as soon as even a faint sound,
so he is yellow-bellied.
（息子はかすかな物音でさえすぐ縮こまってしまう臆病者です）
Yellow journalism センセーショナリズムと誇張に基づく報道
It’s just a yellow journalism, don’t believe that.
(それは、ただの大げさな報道だから信じなくていいよ）
See pink elephants 幻が見える
Have you ever been so drunk
that you saw pink elephants?
(幻が見えるほど酔ったことがある？)
In the pink. 精神的にも肉体的にもとても健康な
Last time I met my grandmother, she was in the pink of condition.
(前回祖母に会った時、彼女は健康だった)
Born in the purple 王室、貴族に生まれる
She was born to the purple and a very different world to my own.
（彼女は上流階級の生まれで、私とは別世界の人だった）
Purple patch (or purple passage) 幸せな時期
I passed the audition for the role I have wanted to play.
I think it must be the purple patch in my life.
（私は前から演じたかった役柄のオーディションに合格した。
私は、今が最も幸せな時期に違いないと思う）
